So I am officially back and 2 days early ! Though all this snow leaves me with the strong desire to curl up under the covers, instead I am already dreaming of all the places I want to visit in this new year.
Today's New York Times Travel edition lists the 44 places to go in 2009. And what is number 1?
Beirut !
Now I know you must be thinking the same thing I did, um hello impending war in the region ? But NYT announces Beirut is poised to reclaim its title of the Paris of the Middle East. Two luxury hotels are penned to open this year a Four Seasons Hotel Beirut ( the epitome of luxury and comfort ) and Le Grey ( from the people behind One Aldwych in London also one of the classiest hotels in London).Since I love to travel and I love weddings here are my picks for honeymoon worthy picks from 2-44 of the NYT list.
1- ( #3) The Galapagos : Not only is this an eco-friendly destination, but this year (2009) marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin and the 150th anniversary of " The Origin of Species" , the book that was inspired by his travels in the region. Check out the Red Mangrove Isabela Lodge which is right on the beach and small enough to maintain your privacy.
2- ( #6) Fjallnas-Sweden : not every honeymoon destination has to be on a beach. If your up for adventure try the fjallnas reserve a 19th century resort in the Swedish hinterlands. They feature tundra-chic suites ( not quite sure what that means but it sounds fun) on a $1,700 acre complex.
to be continued...
